Welcome
to The Art of Stained Glass
There
are many steps that are taken to create a beautiful piece of
stained glass.
A
pattern is designed. Pieces of colored glass are chosen. There
are many different types of glass to choose from. Some glasses
are transparent, opaque and semi transparent, each having it's
own identity. Using a glasscutter, each piece in the pattern is
cut from the glass. A grinder is used to smooth the edges and to
ensure a perfect fit on the pattern. Copper foil is applied on
the edges of each piece of cut glass. When all pieces are foiled
and placed on the pattern, flux is applied, then melted solder.
When this soldering is complete, the piece is washed. A patina
may be applied to give the solder color - copper or black.
Polish is then applied. A beautiful piece of stained glass
artwork has been created.
I
have been creating stained artwork since 1994.
